Enhancing the health and wellbeing of women across the Scottish Borders & north Northumberland
The Borders Menopause Clinic aims to provide a holistic approach to the health of women at any age experiencing menopausal symptoms. Based at Kelso Health and Wellness in the Scottish Borders, this service was established by Dr Rebecca Smithson, MBChB, DFFP, MRCGP, MSc in 2022.
The Menopause – a Time of Change
The menopause is a time of huge change for women and symptoms may last for many years. Although the average age of the menopause is 51, women can go through the menopause much earlier (for natural reasons or due to medicines or surgery).
Some women can have only a few symptoms, but it is very rare to have no symptoms at all. Symptoms can include: hot flushes and sweats, mood swings, anxiety, depression, palpitations, headaches and migraines, hair and skin changes, loss of libido, joint pains, bladder and bowel issues, vaginal dryness and infections, memory loss and ‘brain fog’.
