Services and Treatments Offered
Private Menopause ConsultationIn your consultation, we will discuss your symptoms and their impact upon your life. We can consider options which may help your symptoms, which may include hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-HRT medical management, and non-medical approaches. You will be supported to choose the right approach for you. Follow up appointments are offered to provide ongoing advice and support. Annual check-ups are required if HRT is prescribed. There is a small fee for private prescriptions to cover administrative costs. Virtual appointments are available by arrangement.
AcupunctureThere are broadly two acupuncture approaches – Traditional Chinese and Western Medical – though there is considerable overlap between the two. Western Medical acupuncture is offered at The Borders Menopause Clinic, and it is used to help a variety of symptoms including hot flushes and sweats, insomnia, muscle and joint pains, as well as to support lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation.
EducationIn partnership with Ruth Devlin, Nurse Educator and founder of Let's Talk Menopause, we deliver evidence-based information and education sessions for individuals, groups, workplaces, and professionals. Visit Let's Talk Menopause for more information.

Cognitive Behavioural TherapyCognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) considers the effects of thoughts and behaviours on how we respond to situations. CBT has been proven to be a highly effective intervention to help women suffering from hot flushes and night sweats. It does not stop the flushes or sweats from occurring, but has achieved excellent results in reducing the impact of these symptoms. CBT can also be used to treat insomnia.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy uses a state of deep relaxation to allow the mind to be open to suggestions of change. The Borders Menopause Clinic utilises Solution Focused Hypnotherapy – a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis. This can be used to treat a variety of conditions including general stress, anxiety, low mood or depression, grief, irritable bowel syndrome, phobias, smoking cessation, chronic pain, insomnia, and weight management. Hypnotherapy has been shown to be effective in the management of hot flushes in the menopause.

Please note: The Borders Menopause Clinic does not have the facility to perform investigations such as blood tests or scans, insert intra-uterine devices or systems (‘coils’), or carry out procedures such as smears or endometrial biopsies. Therefore, you may be referred to your GP, a sexual health clinic, or advised to seek the opinion of a Gynaecologist should the clinic not be able to meet your needs. In addition, we do not have access to any of your health records. We therefore rely on you to give us accurate information regarding your health and medication history. Failure to do so could result in incorrect advice or management which could pose a serious risk to your health.
